The Town of High River is a Cool Little Town, with a population of just under 13,000. An easy 30 minute drive south of the city of Calgary on Highway 2, this historical western town has a rich history of working with the Alberta film and television industry.
In 2012, High River was formally recognized as Home of the popular TV series Heartland©, that has been filming in the High River area since 2007. Other recent and notable productions that film in High River include: Fargo the TV series for the FX network, CityTV’s Young Drunk Punk and a unique web-based series called Haunting Melissa.
As a lifestyle community, High River’s progressive environment is enhanced by a thriving arts, culture and heritage scene and offers a full calendar of cultural events and festivals. The town also features hundreds of unique businesses including fashion boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants.

The actual ranch Heartland uses for filming is at an undisclosed location on private property, not open or accessible to the public. For people who are interested in experiencing ranch life in the area around where Heartland is filmed, three hotels in High River have partnered with two ranches in order to provide a similar riding experience.
